182pp., 4to, illustrated throughout in colour by Felicien de Myrbach. 2026. This is a special limited edition of 150 copies, cloth bound & printed on specially chosen high quality paper. We are delighted to present this new version of the very famous work by Frederic Masson AVENTURES DE GUERRE. The original is one of the finest of 19th century illustrated studies of the Napoleonic Wars. Its quality lies both in the extremely spirited illustrations by de Myrbach which directly depict events from the memoirs, but also the quality of the memoirs themselves, all designed to show young soldiers caught up in the drama of military campaigns, studies full of military detail and epic survival. All have been carefully translated (by myself!) into English for the first time: Jean-François Goddard of the National Guard fighting a frontier war with the Austrians, The Baron De Selle De Beau Champ, caught up in the new technology of aerial warfare. Camus de Richemont fought the Ottomans in such a way as the Crusaders centuries before. Joseph Petit of the mounted Grenadiers of the Consular Guard, brushed shoulders with Napoleon himself at Marengo. Jean-Pierre Sibelet of the Chasseurs à Cheval witnessed Napoleon’s greatest victory at Austerlitz. Lieutenant Niegolewski served with the Polish cavalry at the battle at Somosierra. Finally a musician, Philippe-René Girault, found himself trapped at Lobau in the middle of the battle. This is a book carefullt designed for collectors and enthusiasts of the Napoleonic Wars.
