214pp., landscape 4to, 153 mostly colour plates, 54 colour maps, 44 figs. 2026. Complementing our reprint of Ramsay Phipps’ great study on the French Revolutionary campaigns (see below), we are delighted to present this lavish colour study based on the spirited 19th century battle paintings of the period. Whilst the basis of the book are artworks from the famous Album Militaire, Victoires et Conquetes des Armee Francaises, to these have been added other battle scenes to make the study more comprehensive. New captions have been added to the pictures, colour maps (many from Phipps but in this edition they are coloured) plus delightful sketches largely by JOB. All in all, this represents the most complete visual study of the period – one of battles over much of Europe, ultimately leading to the rise of Napoleon and his marshals.
